SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Nov. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, revealed this Wednesday the accord reached with the Ministry of Defence regarding the acquisition of the Cristo barracks in the municipality of La Laguna, for €8.1 million, intending to repurpose the site for social and health use.
During a press conference to disclose the agreements of the Government Council, alongside vice president Lope Afonso, she stated that this is the “decisive step” in finalising an operation initiated nine months ago, which was first proposed in 2019.
The land encompasses approximately 18,500 square metres across two plots, with a primary plot of 17,000 square metres and a secondary plot of 1,500 square metres. The plan is for the Cabildo to conclude the agreement with the ministry within the next 15 days.
Dávila emphasised that a socio-health centre will be constructed on this land to address the “urgent demand” for accommodation for the elderly in the metropolitan area, with the project set to be assigned to the Institute of Social and Socio-Health Care (IASS).
