SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 19 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de La Palma works with more than 40 companies on the island in the removal of ash in an operation in which a significant volume of machinery participates, including trucks, backhoes and shovels, and which has allowed the evacuation of the collection point to the deposit area in Fuencaliente around 60,000 cubic meters of this material product of the volcanic eruption.
The Vice President of the Cabildo and Minister of Infrastructure, Borja Perdomo, visited the ash collection point in Las Manchas, where a continuous carousel of trucks deposits the ash that is removed both from public roads and from around homes.
Borja Perdomo pointed out that this work, to which the Cabildo is injecting around 400,000 euros monthly, is being carried out in coordination with both the municipalities of the area affected by the volcano and with the crews of the Extraordinary Employment Plan financed by the Government from Spain.
The vice president stressed that it is a huge task and acknowledges that there is still a lot of work to be done, taking into account the estimate that the volume of this material deposited on the island roads during the volcanic eruption reaches one million cubic meters. Likewise, he has thanked the Fuencaliente City Council for its collaboration by giving a space to deposit the ashes.
“From the Cabildo de La Palma we work focused on recovering normality as soon as possible and for this we are putting all possible means and resources, with companies and freelancers from La Palma, which has a favorable impact on the island economy”, concluded Borja Perdomo .
