Residents near the Iders building, situated on the central Familia Betancourt y Molina avenue, are voicing concerns over the dire circumstances they face due to the rampant presence of rats and cockroaches, which have resulted from the accumulation of waste both within and outside the building, which suffers from aluminosis and is at risk of collapsing.
Aside from the unpleasant odours emanating from within the building, “we now have to contend with the smell from the bins opposite, which are utilised by residents of the nearly 700 apartments in the block, as well as shopkeepers and bars and restaurants on the nearby streets, which are not emptied as often as they should be,” complains Eduardo Luis, president of the Iberia building community and spokesperson for other residents’ associations.
“We are appalled; this situation is intolerable as we are surrounded by rubbish both inside and outside,” he reflects. “We can hardly walk on the pavement anymore as we live in fear that a rat will leap out at us and bite us,” he admits.
