SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 7. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Canarian Coalition of Tenerife has denounced a new “lack of respect” and the “mistreatment” of the Government of Spain towards the Island and towards Santa Cruz by not including it within the 25 Spanish cities that they will propose to host the main meetings of the Spanish Presidency of the EU during the second half of 2023.
Tenerife nationalists consider “a new political abandonment of the citizens of the island, and more specifically, of those of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a city that is the capital of the Canary Islands together with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which has been designated within the possible candidates.
The secretary of the Organization of the Canarian Coalition of Tenerife and regional deputy, Rosa Dávila, accused the Government of Pedro Sánchez and the Executive of Ángel Víctor Torres, both from the PSOE, of “leaving the island behind again by not including Santa Cruz de Tenerife or any other city on the island as a possible venue for these meetings where matters of vital importance for the future of the European Union will be discussed”.
“We do not understand how it is possible that the socialist government of Pedro Sánchez, with the approval of Ángel Víctor Torres, does not even take into account a city like Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is the capital of the Canary Islands, and which it shares with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which is within the 25 chosen cities”, criticized Dávila.
The secretary of Organization and nationalist deputy assured that this is “yet another example of the express will of the socialist government of Ángel Víctor Torres to subtract political and institutional weight from Tenerife and, specifically, from Santa Cruz”
For Dávila, “this is just another example that Tenerife has not been the same since the PSOE took office. The island is lagging behind, it has lost competitiveness and there is a clear loss of political, economic and social weight due to a clear lack of political leadership.
“Tenerife has lost leadership, it has lost economic, competitive and political capacity. We demand that the President of the Government, Ángel Víctor Torres, not make Tenerife pay for Madrid’s neglect or his disagreements with Pedro Martin and the Cabildo de Tenerife”, highlighted the nationalist deputy. .
