Officers from the Candelaria Civil Guard have conducted an inquiry into a 39-year-old individual suspected of an ongoing offence against property, specifically for pilfering batteries from fishing and leisure vessels docked at Candelaria, in Tenerife.

The incidents commenced in February 2023 and persisted over several months, as the suspect exploited the absence of crew members on the boats to gain entry and steal the batteries, as noted by the armed institute in their report.

The accused allegedly made off with seven batteries, valued at approximately 2,000 euros.

Through the diligent investigation undertaken by the Civil Guard officers, sufficient evidence was gathered to identify, locate, and scrutinise the suspect.

Additionally, receipts demonstrating the illicit sale of the stolen batteries were recovered.

“Considering that these criminal activities were instigating a degree of social unease among local fishermen, this investigation has been vital in reinstating a sense of calm at the aforementioned dock,” the report concludes.
