“Tourist accommodations are not the housing crisis in the Canary Islands,” is the perspective of Pedro Afonso, the head of the employers’ association in Tenerife. The president of the Confederation of Businessmen of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (CEOE-Tenerife) made this remark following a discussion with Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo of Tenerife. Dávila has recently called for a moratorium on holiday homes due to the surge of new properties emerging on the Island, following the announcement of a law by the Government of the Canary Islands aimed at regulating this sector: a total of 7,266 have been registered so far this year.
