The progress in healthcare matters, particularly in mental health care in the Canary Islands, has been emphasized by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, during this first year of the legislature. This was done during a meeting at the Government’s Presidency with Carmen Linares, who is the head of the Official College of Psychologists in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in order to get acquainted with the ongoing projects of the professional institution.
During the meeting, Fernando Clavijo mentioned the initial data recently presented regarding the implementation of the Psychological Care in Primary Care programme in the Canary Islands. This programme aims to enhance the quality of mental health services for the population, ensuring the promotion of mental health as well as the prevention of mental illness.
The commitment of the Government and the Canary Islands Health Service is geared towards rolling out this project across all the Basic Health Zones of the Canary Islands to ensure fairness and equal access to these mental health care resources and tools.
Anxiety disorders accounted for 42 percent of the total number of consultations referred to Psychology, followed by adaptive disorders at 20 percent and depression at 13 percent, among others.
The President of the Canary Islands was joined by Fernando Gómez-Pamo, who is the Director General of Mental Health and Addictions of the Canarian Executive.
