An octogenarian was rushed to hospital in a critical condition on Wednesday following a cardiac arrest while on a jetty in the harbour of Los Cristianos, situated in the municipality of Arona, Tenerife. This was reported by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center 112.
Emergency services were dispatched to the location upon receiving a distress call reporting a person collapsing and in need of medical assistance at the port of Los Cristianos.
A doctor from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) who was present at the 112 operations centre, after obtaining information from the caller, confirmed that the individual was in cardiac arrest and provided instructions via telecare for resuscitation efforts to commence.
Meanwhile, officers from the Port Police on the dock continued to aid the individual and administered a semi-automatic defibrillator.
Ambulance personnel from SUC verified that the individual was still in cardiac arrest and proceeded with advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation, ultimately managing to restore a pulse.
Once stabilized, the individual was transported in critical condition by SUC ambulance to a hospital in the southern region of Tenerife.
Furthermore, officers from the Local Police and National Police lent their assistance to the other emergency responders.
