SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands has initiated the first assessment of the level of genuine and effective equality between genders within the Judiciary to understand the current situation of personnel in this sector. The consultancy and technical assistance activities will be carried out in the upcoming months with the results expected to be ready by the end of the year.
Mari Carmen de León, the general director of Relations with the Judiciary, elaborated on the process being the second phase of the action plan, following the establishment of the Gender Equality Committee in the realm of the Judiciary back in March. Comprising 50 percent of union representatives and members of the Judiciary, this new collaborative team has a joint and equitable composition, with an equal number of male and female participants.
Last November, the Ministry reinstated efforts initiated during the 2015-2019 term to devise an Equality Plan for the autonomous Public Administration. As part of this initiative, agreement was reached at the beginning of the year with the union delegates to form equality committees tasked with formulating sector-specific plans for the General Administration, Educational Administration, Health Administration, and the Judiciary.
This assessment will be presented to the Government to lay the groundwork for a Comprehensive Action Framework to develop sector-specific equality plans, with a commitment to have them in place by 2025.
The report will be approached from a gender perspective and will cover a quantitative analysis of the workforce, personnel recruitment processes, salaries, and working conditions. Co-responsibility along with the rationale behind permits and absences, as well as workplace initiatives to promote work-life balance and their visibility, will also be scrutinised.
Additionally, the representation of women at various hierarchical levels, their legal representation, and the level of integration of equality principles in work procedures and practices will be evaluated.
