The Cabildo de La Palma has approved in the Board of Spokespersons that the procedure to name Miguel Ángel Morcuende Adoptive Son of the Island be initiated “for his enormous dedication, during all these years, demonstrating absolute dedication as the person in charge of emergency tasks in the island”.
“A professionalism that has also been recognized throughout the Canary Islands and in Spain and that, moreover, has been evident with their work during the volcanic eruption,” said the island’s president, Mariano Zapata.
The president remarked that Miguel Ángel Morcuende has been one of the most important figures in the management of the volcano emergency, adding that throughout these months he has performed the function of Pevolca’s technical director and has acted as head of the management and coordination of all the actions that have been carried out and continue to be carried out under the Plan itself and the corresponding Insular, standing out “for its great professionalism and dedication, but also its enormous human quality; giving the best of itself at all times for this one that It is his island and for all palmeros”.
Miguel Ángel Morcuende has extensive experience that has led him to be General Director of Urban and Environmental Discipline of the Government of the Canary Islands; head of service of the Environment and Emergencies Unit of La Palma, and technical general secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Policy of the Government of the Canary Islands, among other things. He has developed his career both in La Rioja, where he was at the Center for Cadastral Management and Tax Cooperation, and in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
On the other hand, at the political level, he has been a councilor of the Santa Cruz de La Palma City Council; insular director of the General Administration of the State and councilor of the Cabildo de La Gomera. His extensive career deserves from him that he has been a magnificent professional throughout his entire career.
