SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12th April – EUROPA PRESS –
An extraordinary session of the Governing Council of the University of La Laguna was held today, Friday, during which the allocation of accommodation places in the academic institution for the upcoming academic year 2024-25 was approved.
The allocation continues from the previous year, with a minimum of 511 places available. The places are distributed as follows: 114 in Colegio Mayor San Agustín, 107 in Colegio Mayor San Fernando, 110 in Colegio Mayor Santa María, and 180 in the Parque de las Islas University Residence.
The public prices will be discussed in a future session, then submitted to the Social Council for approval. The places will be divided among new entrants, renewals, and doctoral students or those pursuing a second degree. Vacancies will be assigned based on a scale considering academic performance, financial status, and proximity to the family home.
Another document approved in the session was the teaching staff evaluation manual, presented by the Vice-Rector for Teaching, José Manuel García Fraga, which was also endorsed. The manual outlines the development of the Docentia program, tailored to the new Organic Law of the University System, incorporating various enhancements and suggestions.
The evaluation process consists of two phases. The initial phase rates the teaching staff as unfavorable, favorable, or very favorable. Those rated as very favorable proceed to a second phase for merit recognition, striving to achieve the status of excellent teaching staff.
Excellent teachers will enjoy certain benefits, including eligibility for the new Teaching Award within the institutional awards presented every 11th of March. Conversely, teachers with a negative rating will have limitations, such as exclusion from single-person governing bodies and specific merit considerations for teaching.
The vice-rector highlighted plans for a campaign to enhance awareness of these regulations, which involves creating explanatory videos, providing online training, and establishing a forum to address common inquiries.
