A 42-year-old man, a Norwegian national and resident of La Gomera, was found naked on Thursday morning in the south of Tenerife after escaping from a hospital.
The individual was spotted in the reception of a hotel in Los Cristianos wrapped in a sheet from the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), but without the identification bracelet.
According to reports, this person, who suffers from mental health issues, has a residence in San Sebastian de La Gomera. However, it was detected about three weeks ago that he was living on the streets.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Nordic native was found naked near La Cueva beach, on the coast of the Gomeran capital. Due to these circumstances, officers from the Civil Guard intervened with the man and took him to a medical centre.
Additionally, the Armed Institute professionals verified that the person had not committed any recent crimes and was not being sought by any judicial or police authorities.
Allegedly, this individual is not registered with the San Sebastian de La Gomera Town Hall and only resides on the island, without close relatives.
According to reports, on Wednesday morning, local police officers from the Gomeran capital spoke with him and he informed them that he had a friend in Tenerife.
With this information, allegedly the San Sebastian council paid for a ticket for him to travel to Tenerife and he was escorted by volunteers during the journey.
Several hours later, the man was taken to the South Hospital facilities, in the El Mojón area. And at a certain moment, the Norwegian man escaped from the healthcare centre, according to reports.
Indeed, on Thursday morning, the same individual was seen in the vicinity of Juan Carlos I avenue, in the Los Cristianos area.
Several witnesses reported that there was a completely naked man in the street and local police officers from Arona conducted a search along that street to try to locate him.
After covering the entire avenue and part of the centre of Los Cristianos, the officers did not see him. However, minutes later, staff at a hotel on that street reported that they had the individual in their building.
Security personnel confirmed that the Nordic citizen was only covered with a sheet from the SCS, but lacked the identification bracelet.
After speaking with the man, he revealed his name, country of origin, and date of birth to them. He was in an obvious state of dehydration, so the officers requested the intervention of an ambulance from the Canarian Emergency Service (SCS).
Once the person was calmer, the officers obtained a phone number. This enabled them to contact the man’s father. He explained that they have a home in La Gomera, but the rest of the family currently resides in Norway. Furthermore, he revealed that his son allegedly suffers from bipolar disorder.
Interestingly, the hotel in Los Cristianos where he sought refuge on Thursday morning is the same one where he and his family were on vacation last December for a few days.
