García Abreu made it clear that this Thursday was “a historic day for La Victoria after all that we have had to go through to find ourselves here, inaugurating this first residence for the elderly. Perhaps this should have happened decades ago, and we would have saved ourselves many tears and suffering from so many families. But we are happy and proud to finally meet the elders».

“One came to politics for these things,” said the mayor, who also had words of appreciation for the island president, Pedro Martin (PSOE), “for his work with foundation and rigor” at the head of the Cabildo de Tenerife, “always thinking of people.” And he valued the agreement signed last year to be able to make this work a reality and other actions such as the upcoming expansion of the occupational center or the expansion of the mini-residence for people with disabilities in La Vera.

The new facilities occupy a total area of about 1,100 square meters

The presentation of the residence for the elderly, which will have 18 residential places and 35 day centers, brought together numerous local and island authorities, and a large audience, including users of the current day center and occupational center. Pedro Martín stressed to those present that inaugurating this type of facility excites him more than “inaugurating a highway” and remarked that “these are the things that dignify politics, in the face of noise and unpleasant issues; We cannot forget that politics makes sense when working for others».

«There are few things more rewarding than opening a nursing homea place to take care of the elderly without having to leave their town, where they have made their lives, close to the streets they have traveled and where they can receive visits from their family and friends, “Martín stressed.

The Councilor for Social Action of the Cabildo, Marian Franquetsaid that the mayor victoriero has been “very heavy” to be able to carry out this residence. «He arrived in 2019 and made it clear to us that he was not going to say goodbye to the mandate without achieving this center. It has been a jackhammer to solve all the problems that have arisen”, he stressed. In Franquet’s opinion, “this will not be a center, it will be a home, a place where people can develop their lives and their day-to-day without having to give up the environment they have always known, their people, with warmth and quality of life».
