SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7th April. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The La Laguna City Council (Tenerife) is set to participate in the upcoming European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels, an event promoted by the European Commission to facilitate the exchange of experiences among various territories across the continent and progress towards a sustainable and inclusive future, in alignment with the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB).
The Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the City Council will have its own booth at this international event. “We will showcase our significant advancements in areas such as disability support, universal accessibility, and inclusive services, which have earned us prestigious accolades like the first prize at the Access City Award, and nominations for the 2024 European Capitals of Inclusion and Diversity Award, all bestowed by the European Commission itself,” stated Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez.
Maria Cruz, the councilor for Social Welfare and Quality of Life, also emphasised the importance of this event, citing “the opportunity for La Laguna to engage in productive discussions with other administrations, foster new partnerships with industry players, and draw inspiration from successful initiatives that can be adapted to our region.”
The representation from the La Laguna City Council will partake in various workshops, exhibitions, displays, and activities during the festival. The topics covered range from the revitalisation of urban spaces for enhanced accessibility, the transformative influence of green areas, efficient utilisation of architectural resources, the empowering role of culture for individuals with neurological conditions, intergenerational social cohesion, communal spaces and cooperative ventures, to innovation and entrepreneurship in the rejuvenation of historic cities.
A significant focus of the event will be on participatory tools for social cohesion, viewed as an inclusive educational process involving community participation, leading to consensus that shapes subsequent policy decisions.
Also, noteworthy is the session on diversity, equity, and inclusion in advanced music education, serving as a call to action to share experiences, recognise best practices, and collectively devise an optimal framework.
