The Aemet warns of a heat stroke that brings forward the summer in the Canary Islands

Recent developments are underway at the esteemed Las Teresitas beach. During the Governing Board meeting of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council last Monday, the commencement of rehabilitation works on the beach’s breakwater was given the green light. These enhancements will include the construction of a promenade that will link the area with the beach sand.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, highlighted the importance of these improvements in restoring direct access to the sea via the breakwater, resulting in the closure of a section of the beach for swimming. This urgent intervention became necessary due to the insufficient blocks in the protective layer of the breakwater, particularly on the outward slope and towards the base.

The restoration of the breakwater at Las Teresitas beach comprises the replacement of the seawall, revitalisation of the promenade, installation of new sea access stairs, and the construction of a ramp connecting the breakwater to the beach’s sand. Unfortunately, the planned solarium will not be realised due to regulatory constraints from the General Directorate of Coasts.

Javier Rivero also recalled the closure of the end section of the beach by the City Council in 2020 due to damage from waves and storms. He emphasised that numerous areas of the breakwater are currently inaccessible and pose a safety hazard to the public.
