SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 16 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Island Council will be allocating 2.5 million Euros towards the initiation of the Activa Suelo Programme, designed to secure land for the construction of social housing for rent, specifically for Tenerife towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants.
Sonia Hernández, the Minister for Housing, emphasises that this is one of the initiatives being pushed forward during this tenure with the objective of expanding the public housing supply for social rent, highlighting their efforts to “address one of the primary concerns of the population, which revolves around housing access.”
The councillor mentions, “In line with this, we have introduced other programmes such as the Activa Vivienda Programme, alongside the Activa Suelo Programme tailored for towns with under 20,000 residents, as well as endeavours related to investments in housing renovation.”
The official statement reveals, “Over the course of this fiscal year, more than 20 million Euros have been allocated to projects and schemes focused on increasing the public housing supply, in response to a pressing social need that stands as a priority for this administration.”
The Insular Activa Suelo Programme for towns with over 20,000 residents is modelled on analogous initiatives launched by the Cabildo, all aimed at addressing the shortage of public rental housing in Tenerife.
Consequently, the programme greenlights a subsidy package to be distributed among the island’s municipal councils with a population exceeding 20,000 residents for the procurement of suitable land for constructing protected rental housing, for the implementation of urbanisation projects on municipal grounds, and even for the acquisition of land and subsequent urbanisation projects, provided that, in the latter two scenarios, the ultimate purpose of the plot is the construction of officially protected rental housing.
Specifically, the maximum grant per recipient will stand at 250,000 Euros.
