The caving in of the pavement and the walkway on Doctor Asín Gavín Street in Residencial Anaga has led to the destabilisation of a wall situated at the end of the aforementioned street. This poses a serious hazard to pedestrians and vehicles, prompting the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council to declare an emergency for the necessary containment works of this structure. The decision was reached yesterday by the municipal Government Board.
The project, with an initial budget of 200,000 euros, is scheduled to commence post-Easter and will be executed by the company Signalaciones Tenerife. Additionally, the emergency-hired firm, Mareva Engineering, will oversee project management and security coordination at a cost of 10,000 euros.
Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez emphasises the justification for declaring an emergency, citing the observed pavement deterioration as a clear indication of the critical situation. He further highlights that the ground’s bearing capacity is compromised during humid spells, elevating the immediate risk of a potential wall collapse following heavy rainfall, posing significant threats.
Works Councillor Javier Rivero stressed the urgency of the situation, explaining that the proximity of individuals or vehicles to the wall, as well as potential downstream implications, could impact nearby residences.
