The 27th edition of the Max Awards for the Performing Arts, the prestigious recognition dedicated to theatre and dance professionals in Spain, will take place on 1st July at the ‘Adán Martín’ Auditorium in Tenerife. This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the Auditorium, making it a significant milestone for the event. It will be the first time Tenerife hosts these distinguished awards.

The agreement was presented at a press conference attended by Rosa Dávila, the President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Foreign Affairs and Institutional Relations, José Carlos Acha, the Minister of Culture and Museums, and Juan José Solana, the President of the SGAE Foundation.
Rosa Dávila expressed her “deep pride” in Tenerife being chosen as the venue for the Max Awards ceremony by the SGAE Foundation, especially at the ‘Adán Martín’ Auditorium, renowned for its architectural and artistic value. She highlighted the historical significance of hosting these awards for the first time in Tenerife and only the second time in the Canary Islands.
Speaking about the cultural significance of the event, Juan José Solana of the SGAE Foundation described it as a “tremendous pleasure” to hold the 27th Max Awards in Tenerife, particularly at the impressive Auditorium. He praised the vibrant cultural scene on the island, citing names such as José Padilla, Daniel Abreu, Irma Correa, and the late María Araujo, as emblematic of the thriving artistic landscape in the Canary Islands.
The Max Awards received 522 submissions for the 27th edition, with 396 entries accepted for the competition, marking it as the third best participation in the contest’s history. This surge in interest reflects the growing enthusiasm for dramaturgy in Spain.
Lope Afonso, the Vice President and Minister of Tourism, highlighted Tenerife’s emergence as a cultural hub for major events and applauded the synergies between the Max Awards and the Auditorium’s twentieth-anniversary celebrations. He emphasised the events’ contribution to enhancing Tenerife’s appeal to tourists through its diverse cultural offerings.

The 27th Max Awards for the Performing Arts are made possible through collaborations with the Tenerife Cabildo, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM), and the Eulen group. The ceremony will be broadcast on La 2 de Televisión Española and via streaming on RTVE Play.

The Canary Islands boast a rich cultural landscape with esteemed venues like the Cuyás Theater, the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, and the Tenerife Auditorium, which serve as pillars for celebrating the performing arts in the region.
Pushing Boundaries with Innovation and Excellence
The Max Awards are making their debut in Tenerife, following the successful hosting of the event in Gran Canaria in 2009. The 27th edition of the Awards, scheduled for 2024, will showcase the artistic talents at the Tenerife Auditorium, a premier cultural hub in the Canary Islands.
Since its inauguration in 2003, the Tenerife Auditorium has been a prominent venue for national and international artistic performances, attracting distinguished guests and hosting a diverse range of events. With avant-garde architecture designed by Santiago Calatrava, the Auditorium stands out as a symbol of excellence, innovation, and commitment to artistic growth and audience engagement.
