SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
In an ordinary session under the leadership of its owner, Pedro Suárez, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has appointed Pablo Nieto as the director of the port entity, replacing Javier Mora Quintero.
The appointment proposal, put forward by Pedro Suárez, garnered support from the attending directors who also expressed their gratitude for the outgoing director’s work, who has been in that position since October 2021.
Pablo Nieto, a Civil, Canal, and Port Engineer with a specialization in hydraulics, brings with him previous experience in the ports, having served as the head of the Exploitation Department between 2021 and 2023.
He has extensive postgraduate training in business management and a significant background as the head of the Works department in companies like FCC Construction SA, where he was involved in projects such as the Shelter works of the port of Granadilla, the new base of containers from the East Dock, and the rehabilitation of the coastline of Santa Cruz de La Palma, as reported by Puertos de Tenerife.
Additionally, he has worked as a technical director at TRAYSESA, SL, and has contributed as a professional in urbanization and maritime works projects and national conferences in the sector.
In order to initiate changes in the urban planning of the Special Port Plan that would facilitate port development in the Fishing Dock, the highest representative body also decided to commence the procedures to modify the document to accommodate new activities contributing to the port’s growth.
This modification aims to correct cartographic and planning errors, as well as mitigate the presence of disused buildings which incur maintenance expenses and low profitability.
The Fishing Dock, now renamed the North Dock, spans an area of 508,935 square meters, with its predominant use currently linked to warehouses and industry.
REORIENTATION OF PLOTS
The proposal presented to the Council recommends seven areas of modification in the functional zone. These changes include variations in building parameters, redefinition of plot limits, and flexibility of tertiary uses such as hospitality, commercial, and office, introducing them in parts of the plots not included in the Current Special Plan and promoting them in existing plots.
The objective is to make these plots, some of which have had disused buildings for a long period, more attractive in order to generate new initiatives that allow for greater use of the port public domain.
Additionally, in response to the need to build new seawater collection wells to supply the Santa Cruz desalination plant installed in Cueva Bermeja, Puertos de Tenerife proposes in this minor modification of the Special Port Plan in the North Dock, to introduce the use of land for hydraulic infrastructure, specifically in a currently landscaped area at the southwest end of the enclosure.
