Continued incidents due to the DANA sweeping Canary Islands from east to west since last Friday. The storm has caused issues due to heavy downpours and wind, resulting in landslides, power cuts, water overflows, branch falls, among other contingencies.
112 Canary Islands has reported a total of 191 incidents from the start of the DANA until midday on Sunday, as per the regional Government’s report.
Most incidents were related to rockslides and stones falling onto roads, water pumping in homes and commercial premises, sewer overflows, electricity supply issues, tree and branch falls, and some flooded roads.
During Sunday morning, 112 recorded new rockslides in Santa Úrsula (Tenerife) and in Firgas (Gran Canaria), as well as in the municipalities of Tijarafe and Tazacorte, in La Palma, where calls were also received due to the need for water drainage in homes and commercial premises in Los Llanos de Aridane and El Paso.
Roads leading to the Teide National Park via La Esperanza and La Orotava, as well as access to Roque de Los Muchachos in La Palma, are closed to traffic due to ice on the road and snow.
Alert for rain

On the other hand, the Canary Islands Government has announced that it maintains the alert status in the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura due to the forecasted rains for Sunday afternoon, while La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro are on pre-alert status.
The proximity of two bands of precipitation from the north and south of the archipelago in the coming hours has led the General Directorate of Emergencies to maintain the alert.
The Isolated High-Level Depression (DANA) affecting the archipelago this weekend has resulted in 191 incidents, according to the 112’s count.
The weather forecast anticipates possible showers in the northern and metropolitan area of Tenerife, which will move towards the south of Gran Canaria from noon with possible impact on the capital and the north of the island. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will also receive precipitation.
The heaviest rains recorded by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) from 00:00 to 13:00 on Sunday have been in La Palma, with up to 29.2 liters per square meter in Tijarafe, although there have also been rains above 18 liters in Puntagorda, Roque de los Muchachos, San Andrés y Sauces, Fuencaliente and El Paso.
Outside La Palma, the heaviest rains this Sunday have been in Pájara (Fuerteventura), with 9.1 liters per square meter, Puerto de Mogán (Gran Canaria), with 7.4 liters, and San Juan de la Rambla (Tenerife), where 7 liters have accumulated.
The pre-alert for wind in the western islands has ended at 12:00, and the pre-alert for coastal phenomena in all islands is lifted from 16:00.
The pre-alert declarations for storms in all islands and for snow in the summits of La Palma and Tenerife remain in effect.
