SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th Feb (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Rural Action Group (GAR), an entity owned by the Cabildo, processed a total of 23 subsidy schemes for agricultural organizations on the island in 2023, amounting to a total of 1,252,397.03 euros from European, Spanish, and Canary Islands’ autonomous community funds, aimed at fostering initiatives for rural development.
The subsidies’ focus lies in creating employment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and diversifying the rural economy, as explained by the Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, who emphasized the promotion of training, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Additionally, GAR concentrated its efforts on developing strategies to enhance the living standards in the midlands, closely collaborating with the technical service of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Cabildo. Their involvement included initiatives such as updating the Island Plan for the Tenerife Potato and collaborating in assessing the damage caused by the forest fire that erupted on August 15 in the chestnut agrosystem, among other concerns.
Throughout 2023, the Tenerife Rural Action Group assumed the presidency of the Canarian Federation of Rural Development within the Spanish Rural Development Network. Furthermore, GAR Tenerife established communication with various Local Action Groups at the European level to explore potential collaborative projects.
