Metrotenerife, the tram management company, has announced that it will enhance line 1 by using double units throughout the Santa Cruz Carnival, which commences its street festivities this Friday. However, the service will experience disruptions at certain times due to a workers’ strike.
The double tram services, each with a capacity of 400 passengers, will commence early this Friday and continue uninterrupted throughout the first holiday weekend.
Most days, the service will operate at 10-minute intervals in each direction, and during off-peak times, it will be 12 or 15 minutes.
Despite the reinforcement, on the first day of Carnival, this Friday, the service will cease at La Paz from 6:00 p.m., as per Metrotenerife.
Similarly, during Carnival nights, the service will end at 9:00 p.m., and for daytime Carnival events, the last stop will be the Guimerá Theater.
Metrotenerife has stated that the Puente Zurita stop will remain closed as long as La Paz is the final stop on Line 1.
The specific service limitations are a response to the strike called by the company’s workers for February, during which they have scheduled two two-hour strike periods in the morning and early afternoon.
Metrotenerife assures that during these strike periods, the tram will continue to operate at decreed minimum service levels, which could be either 80% or 60%, depending on demand during the strike hours.
Tram services can be checked at all stops and also on Metrotenerife’s social media platforms.
The tram workers had previously announced this strike in September due to various reasons, including the lack of safety measures, remuneration transparency, and the absence of an Equality Plan.
