He Tenerife Council on Friday night turned on the special Christmas lighting at its headquarters in the Spain Square of Santa Cruz in an event that featured a performance by the Shine gospel choir, a Christmas train and other cultural and Christmas activities. At the inauguration there were president of the Government of the Canary IslandsFernando Clavijo, his counterpart from the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Davilathe vice president, Lope Afonso, and the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez. The event could be followed by a broadcast over the internet.
It is the first time that the insular Corporation decorates its façade with special lights during these Christmas holidays. With this measure, the island Corporation collaborates with the capital of Tenerife in its purpose of creating a good atmosphere in the main streets of the city to cheer up Christmas.
There are several initiatives that the Cabildo has adopted for this purpose. There is the nativity scene of the Insular Palace, one of the most visited on the Island, which on this occasion has a biblical atmosphere and was made by José María Mesa Martín. The Cabildo portal has been a reference in Canary Islands since it was first installed at the end of the 1980s, following an initiative proposed by the then Ethnographic Museum, now the Museum of History and Anthropology, a crucial moment to resume this custom that at that time was going through a critical moment, since there were few the births that were staged both at home and in official entities.
Today and tomorrow the PIT opens
