SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 21. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Tenerife received the arrival of 825,918 passengers in November, 8.9% more than the previous year (67,783 more passengers) and 14.5% higher than the arrivals the island had in November 2019.
The vice president and advisor of Tourism, Lope Afonso, assures in a note that “Tenerife improves records in the arrival of visitors, the island enjoys good health in its tourism sector and reinforces the strategy towards a quality destination, with first-class services “.
In his opinion, “the strength that knowing figures like these gives us confirms the idea that we have achieved together of ending 2023 by once again celebrating that Tenerife leads tourism in the Archipelago, which attracts the largest number of visitors, by far. difference over the next island destination, and we do it by improving connectivity and flow at the island’s two airports.
Afonso also insists that we must take into account the increase in passengers in Tenerife North, which will be “key” in the product diversification strategy in the near future.
“With the increasing arrival of tourists, it allows us to claim from an operational point of view the need to extend hours. We want to diversify the product in all aspects of the island. We are aware that improving the operation of Tenerife North, especially With national tourism improving again this year, it helps the territorial diversification strategy between destinations in the north, such as Puerto de la Cruz, and those in the south, already consolidated,” he points out.
Arrivals to Tenerife in November represent 39% of total arrivals to the Canary Islands. Of the remaining islands, Gran Canaria has a share of 29.4%, Lanzarote 15.8% and Fuerteventura 12.1% and after them, La Palma with 2.8%, El Hierro 0.6% and La Gomera 0.2%.
All the islands have increased arrivals in November compared to the previous year and compared to 2019, only La Palma is still below (-2.7%).
In Tenerife, national traffic, with 284,219 passengers arriving, was 4% above that recorded in November of the previous year, with peninsular traffic increasing by 2.6% and inter-island traffic by 6%. Compared to November 2019, arrivals from national airports have been 5.5% higher, with peninsular traffic increasing by 8% and inter-island traffic by 2.4%.
For its part, international traffic, with 541,699 passengers arriving in the month, increased by 11.7% compared to the previous year and maintains growth close to +20% compared to 2019.
MORE THAN 70% ARRIVES THROUGH TENERIFE SOUTH
In reference to the two airports on the island, 70.4% of November arrivals correspond to traffic through the Tenerife South airport (581,846 passengers), registering an increase of 10.6% compared to the previous year.
The Tenerife South airport increased inter-island arrivals by 15.7% while mainland arrivals registered a slight decrease of 0.7%. Regarding international operations, growth was 11.6%, with decreases in the markets mentioned above.
The Tenerife North airport, with an increase of 4.5%, received 29.6% of the traffic arriving in Tenerife in the month (244,072 passengers), with an increase in inter-island arrivals (5.1%) and peninsular arrivals (3 ,4%).
Regarding international operations from this airport, arrivals increased by 63%, due to the increase in traffic from Venezuela. However, operations from Portugal decreased by 10.4%.
Between January and November 2023, Tenerife has maintained connectivity with 29 markets, the same number as the previous year.
During this period of 2023, Tenerife has connected with 149 airports around the world, with a balance of 8 more routes compared to the same period of the previous year, through the operations of a total of 59 groups of companies.
