The XXXVIII Crafts Fair of the Canary Islands Pinolere 2023scheduled for September 1, 2 and 3, had to be postponed last week due to the forest fire that the island of Tenerife suffered.
Now the organization has announced new dates: the event will finally be held on the days October 6, 7 and 8 in the Museum and Ethnographic Park of Pinolere, in the municipality of La Orotava.
The new edition will be dedicated this year to timpleros. Under the slogan ‘Timpleros, a regional exhibition of timples-building artisans from the Canary Islands’, 170 artisans from all over the Archipelago will participate in the meeting that fuses art, tradition and design.
Among the planned activities there will be exhibitions of collections of timples, a didactic exhibition of its elaboration and performances with said instrument. Likewise, a folk twinning is planned between the Parranda El Chaboco de Pinolere and the Folk Group “Do Lusco ó Fusco” from A Guarda de Pontevedra.
Tribute to the traditions of Teguise
This year the traditions of the Teguise municipality will be honored. The municipality of Conejero has the only Timple House-Museum in the world, directed by the musician Benito Cabrera. The devils will be recognized for their essential tradition of the Carnival of Lanzarote.
Every carnival, the Villa de Teguise proudly displays its famous devils, figures dressed in white pants and camisole, painted with rhombuses formed by black and red stripes. Above are leather straps with rattles and bells made of wood and brass, while the face is covered with a striking mask and two horns. In addition, they carry a stick with a bag, which serves to scare the audience and onlookers.
Free buses from the center of La Orotava
The organization recalls that it will make a free bus service available to the public, which will leave every hour from the center of La Orotava, from Avenida Sor Soledad Cobián.
The doors of the venue will open at 10:00 a.m., although the official opening will take place at 12:00 p.m. on September 1. After this act, the awards will be presented, first that of the Cho Ferantes de Honor 2023, and later the XX Villa de La Orotava Crafts and Heritage Award 2023.
The exhibition is organized by the Pinolere Cultural Association «Cultural Project» and has the collaboration of the Hon. City Council of the Villa de La Orotava and the Island Council of Tenerife.
The representative poster of this edition is an idea and design by Chano Díaz from Taller del Sol with a photo by Juan Agustín Pérez Pérez (Tingo).
