SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Parliament of the Canary Islands held an event this Wednesday afternoon to honor the men and women of the 8 islands with the highest number of blood and platelet donations.
This recognition event was organized by the Canarian Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy to honor the perseverance in donation of the donor community of the archipelago.
The event was attended by the president of Parliament Astrid Pérez, the health advisor of the Government of the Canary Islands, Esther Monzón, and the president of the ICHH, Gemma Torres.
The objective of the event is to give visibility and recognition to twenty people who, with their donations, contribute to the health system being able to function normally, saving lives every day with each bag of blood donated.
A total of twenty honorees received recognition for their solidarity and altruistic work, two donors for each of the 8 islands, the man and woman with the highest number of blood donations and four representatives of platelet donation, and the man and woman with the highest number of platelet donations from the province of Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The president of Parliament, Astrid Pérez, congratulated the ICHH for organizing the tribute and highlighted the work of its professionals and donors to meet the goal of obtaining 300 bags of blood per day through altruistic donation.
The Minister of Health, Esther Monzón, highlighted the work carried out by the ICHH that has allowed it to reach nearly 60,000 donations so far this year, but above all, she emphasized the generosity of the donors who, with their commitment to donating Blood and platelets help solve other people’s health problems and even save lives, according to a note from his department.
In this sense, he added that “blood donation is a simple and safe act that lasts just 20 minutes and does not require any special preparation”, which is why he encouraged all people to follow the example of the men and women honored. today that many of them already add up to between fifty and one hundred donations.
The president of the ICHH, Gemma Torres, for her part, thanked both the donors for their constant commitment to donation and the ICHH professionals for their efforts to constantly ensure that they maintain the necessary stock to maintain hospital activity.
During the event, which featured a performance by the Daute Isla Baja Regional School of Music, the honorees received an allegory of Martín Chirino’s work ‘La Espiral del Viento de Canarias’, in reference to the one found in the facilities of the Parliament itself.
