Approximately 3,000 individuals, as per the Local Police of La Laguna’s estimate, joined in the esteemed Valle de Guerra pilgrimage this Sunday to pay homage to San Isidro Labrador and Santa María de la Cabeza. The traditional Vallera event commemorated its 75th edition, recognised as the oldest in the Archipelago. Commencing in a jubilant and festive ambiance, the pilgrimage set off post the 1:00 p.m. Eucharistic ceremony at the Nuestra Señora del Rosario church.
The commencement of the customary route was signified by the sound of the bucios, leading participants along the main road to the bridge and back to the church square. The procession featured around thirty carts, wagons, numerous folklore groups, both organised and impromptu festivities, traditional dances, all attired in regional costumes, swaying to the tunes of isas, folías, polkas, and other Canarian traditional folk music. Furthermore, there were displays of local gastronomy and wine, alongside the spectacular goat herds that are always a sight to see.
Several municipal officials partook in this event, with the President of Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, also present. La Laguna’s Festival Councillor, Dailos González, emphasised “the incredibly festive atmosphere that engulfed Valle de Guerra today,” and noted “the unique essence it held this year, marking the 75th edition of a profoundly established pilgrimage that is a true symbol not just for the residents of Valle and the Northeast Region but for the entire community. In a May filled with pilgrimages, magical dances, and pilgrimage trails, Valle de Guerra remains a definitive stop for any enthusiast of our heritage.”
Dailos González expressed gratitude for “the commendable conduct of all participants, as well as the efforts put in by the festival committee and all security personnel who ensured a smooth operation, and the sanitation crew who swiftly restored order in the village post the pilgrimage.”
