He C.B. Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen returned to league competition after the defeat in Tenerife achieving victory in Galicia against Oliveira & Faro Saeplast Cañiza (20-28) in a match corresponding to the ninth day of group A of the Women’s Silver Honor Division.
The Pontevedra Municipal Pavilion of A Cañiza was the stage where the Tiños team, despite the losses, returned to the path of victories and vindicated themselves as a team.
The loss of several players, including coach Juanmi Pérez for medical reasons, foreshadowed a match similar to the one that caused the first defeat in Tenerife but the team rose from its ashes. The first half was quite even for a good part of the time (8-8, min. 20) but before the rest period the Aurinegras achieved a minimal advantage to face the second half (10-12).
With a lot of heart and determination, the team continued rowing after the restart, increasing the difference as the minutes passed. The Pontevedra team tried but there was nothing they could do against a team that believed in itself in a way it hadn’t for a long time.
Sara Carril and Sofía Álvarez were the top scorers for the locals with four goals each. Among the aurinegras, Cristina Betancort touched the sky on the wing, scoring eleven goals, her best score this season.
With this victory, CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen takes advantage of Carballal’s defeat at home against Gijón (24-27) and regains the lead. The Tiñoseras are at the top of the league standings with sixteen points, eight wins and one defeat, only closely followed by Carballal, with fifteen points.
The Tiños coach, Juanmi Pérez, could not attend the match but followed it with attention and pride, “we won by eight goals against Cañiza, a difficult field in which in other years we have only managed to win by one or two goals. Very satisfied because a team has won despite the problems we have had. This week we insisted on team, team, team and they have taken a step forward to get two important points to continue ahead. Now comes a break that will be good to adjust things as much as possible. Today, more than talking about scorers, six-zero or five-one, I want to highlight that a real team has won in a locker room.”
On the next day, in fifteen days, on Saturday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m., the tiñoso team receives at the Municipal de Aunts to SAR Rodavigo, a team that has just lost at home against Balonmano Santa Cruz de Tenerife (31-32) and is in the middle of the table, seventh, with nine points after having so far achieved four victories, one draw and four defeats .
