“We have not forgotten at all. In a week or fifteen days we will meet with them.” This is how the Minister of Highways of the Tenerife CouncilDámaso Arteaga, to the neighborhood platform ‘All on the Rambla’, who yesterday conveyed to this newspaper his “disenchantment” with the commitments made by politicians who hold positions in the insular area of Highways.
They were referring to the fact that Arteaga had given them his word to study the file on the black spot on La Rambla, at the entrance and exit of the neighborhood, and in the second half of September to hold a meeting again to tell them what state it was in.
The platform has been demanding a secure solution for this core for decades without success. At the end of the last term it seemed that it had been found and so they were transferred by former president Pedro Martín, who assured the neighborhood representatives that the drafting of the project to construct an underpass at the height of Barranco Ruiz had already been awarded to the company. However, in the meeting held on August 1 with Arteaga, in which the former island director Tomás Félix García was also present, to find out the status of development of the project, the latter confirmed “that what is currently being drafted is a study of alternatives,” say the neighbors.
The counselor explains that the file was in another department of the Cabildo, specifically, in the Presidency area, and it was necessary to make an internal change and transfer it to the Highways area, which will assume it from now on.
“For this reason, the meeting with the neighbors was delayed a little. Now we are collecting all the information and when we finish analyzing it we will meet with them to report on the status and evolution of the file together with the mayor, Juan Ramos,” says the island official.
Dámaso Arteaga wants to make it clear that “we have not at all forgotten the commitment that the neighbors made. Quite the opposite.”
