The Candelaria City Council announces a commemorative event for the entities and volunteers who collaborated in the Candelaria forest fire on December 20, International Day of Human Solidarity.
The mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, expressed her most sincere gratitude to the Candelaria Local Police and Civil Protection, as well as to the firefighter and civil protection groups that worked in the municipality from different places in the Canary Islands.
“Of course, the work of the emergency and fire extinguishing management, Tenerife Consortium Firefighters, AENA Firefighters, all firefighting teams and aerial means, helicopters and seaplanes, the Military Emergency Unit (UME) , Brifor, Forest Fire Intervention and Reinforcement Teams (Eirif), Gran Canaria Forest Brigade, Civil Guard, Canarian Police, National Police and Red Cross. In short, all the means made available by the Cabildo de Tenerife, Government of the Canary Islands, Government of Spain and the rest of the island councils, and city councils, as well as the public officials of all the administrations that worked together in this fire, ” he stated.
The president stressed that each task was necessary to fight the fire. The joint work ensured that all people and animals were always safe and that no property was affected by the flames. “In such difficult times, receiving calls, messages and seeing neighbors and people from other municipalities coming to help was exciting, we will be eternally grateful,” she said. As “an act where solidarity and gratitude lead an emotional meeting and the people who worked and contributed come together to be able to thank them,” Brito defined the meeting.
This recognition will include a good number of restaurants and people who collaborated with logistics to make the work of fire personnel easier.
Likewise, collaborating groups and associations will be honored, such as Civil Protection and volunteer firefighters from several municipalities.
Finally, there will also be a recognition of the owners of the ponds from which the helicopters that intervened during a long week to put out the fire were supplied with water: Manuel Marrero Baute, Nicasio Ramos Castillo, Arnoldo Brito Correa, Luis Javier Hernández Hernández, Antonio Rodríguez Trujillo, Nicolás Palmés Rodríguez and the Aguas Pozo Barranco Hondo Community.
