The new minority government team of Icod de los Vinos, made up of the eight councilors of Alternativa Icodense (Aicod), announces that it will cost about 100,000 euros less than the previous one, which was made up of 10 councilors of Canarian Coalition and one of Citizens (Cs). The new mayor of the city of Drago, Javier Sierra, highlights that “the configuration of the new government areas of the City Council will cost the municipality 34 percent less per year compared to the outgoing corporation. We reduce the councils of the 11 that existed in the Canary Coalition mandate to 8 management areas, of which only six will be occupied by councilors released by the City Council and two will have no cost to the municipal coffers.
after elections on May 28, in which Alternativa Icodense was the political group with the most votes, Javier Sierra took office as mayor-president for the next four years, in addition to taking charge of the areas of Communication, Protocol, Legal Regime, Relations Institutional and Parties, which will also reduce the cost of management. Now the planning of the local Government is presented, which is characterized by the unification of responsibilities in some areas and the clear reduction of the gross cost of the same.
“We have proposed a new municipal structure that we believe attends to a clear simplification of responsibilities by grouping, in this way some councils expand their responsibilities and other management areas such as animal welfare, which did not exist, are born,” said the mayor. In other cases, “the content has been studied and adapted to the new social circumstances, as is the case of the LGTBIQ+ department, which we believe needs concentrated attention due to the problems of integration and equality that it entails or that of Technological Innovation, a difficult challenge for this municipality in which in this aspect there is much to do.
Outstretched hand to the opposition
Beyond the designation of those responsible for the new municipal management areas, the Icodense mayor recalls that, in addition, “we will count on the opposition groups at all times, from whom we expect proposals and participation to achieve the long-awaited local development as a result of Consensus and everyone’s participation.
Sierra highlights that Mónica Hernández, senior administration and finance technician, will occupy the first tenure of Mayor and will be in charge of the areas of Finance, Human Resources, Development of the Employment and Economic Development. In the second tenure of Mayor and as councilor responsible for Works, Services, Urban Planning, Heritage, Historical Heritage, Environment, Accessibility, Mobility, Contracting and Education, will be the graduate in teaching Jorge gonzalez. The third tenure of mayoralty will be for Óscar Machado, a health emergency technician, who will take care of the Local Police, Citizen Security, Technological Innovation, Animal Welfare, Primary Sector, Livestock, Agriculture, Fisheries and Industry as well as the public company Icodemsa.

Cathaysa Concepción, graduated in social work, will have responsibilities in Social Action, Equality, the Elderly, Health and LGBTIQ+ and, finally, Eduardo Delgado will occupy the seventh tenure of Mayor, but will not have specific management areas in the new minority government of the Dragon City.
