SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, June 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo, through Turismo de Tenerife, is collaborating with the Vilaflor de Chasna Town Hall in organizing a new edition of the La Floración del Tajinaste photography contest, which aims to promote knowledge of and respect for the native flora and, in Generally, to the environment.
The period to participate in this contest, which also has the support of the Hotel Spa Villalba and the night photographer Mario Rubio, remains open until next Saturday, June 24, through www.fototajinaste.com.
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, David Pérez, has indicated that the tajinaste “is one of the most recognizable icons of our tourist destination, and in this case, photography and nature form a bionomy that values that local authenticity as well in terms of endemism. It is a contest that makes that icon have the best photographs and snapshots to be able to promote the destination with those values of authenticity”.
Pérez added that this enhancement of natural heritage “is one of the commitments to which we have adhered through the Biosphere certification in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
For her part, the mayoress of Vilaflor, Agustina Beltrán, stressed that they are giving relevance to this contest because, she said, “we promote our flora, particularly the tajinaste, which is a great attraction for the municipality.”
The municipal councilor encourages the population of the island “to sign up, to take photos and also enjoy the other attractions that Vilaflor de Chasna offers, both its gastronomy and the beauty of its landscapes, among others”.
This ninth edition incorporates important innovations, among which the creation of a new category for photographs taken by persons under 18 years of age stands out. In addition, more than 2,000 euros in prizes will be distributed, and another 10 recognitions will be delivered in the form of gifts, such as hotel nights or spa sessions, photography books, visits to wineries, etc.
New sponsors have also been incorporated compared to previous editions. This is the case of Fotografiarte, one of the largest stores specializing in photography in the country; and Tecnicam, an island company that repairs and maintains photographic equipment, which joins Bodegas Reverón, Aloe Park, the Academy of Photographers and the Hotel Spa Villalba.
The contest seeks photographs that represent the flowering of the tajinaste, and that may participate in five categories: landscape, night, creative and conceptual, macro and for children under 18 years of age. Unpublished works that have been taken in previous years may be presented.
The photograph that is the absolute winner, among those presented in any of the categories, will receive a prize of 1,500 euros; the second will get 500 euros and the third 250 euros.
The jury is made up of photographers Mario Cea, with more than 90 international nature awards; Jesús García Flores, specialized in landscape photography, architecture and astrophotography and Gold Medalist at the International Pano Epson Awards; as well as Mario Rubio, trainer, creator of different photography congresses and specialized in photographic trips around the world.
