The president of the Tenerife Cabildo reduces TheGrefg’s climb to Teide to a “own video” and denies “irregularities”

The president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila (Canary Coalition), stated this Wednesday that the open controversy surrounding the climb to Teide of the influencer TheGrefg, in the company of the insular director of the Natural Environment, Pedro Millán, has been “oversized” because it is a “own video” in which there has been no advertising promotion by the corporation.

At the press conference to report on the agreements of the Government Council, he pointed out that the video “did not cost the Cabildo a euro” and was in response to a “private trip” of the influencer, with the particularity that he has “18 million followers.” ” on the networks and therefore, a lot of impact among public opinion.

Dávila has also said that all the reports collected by the Cabildo support that “there were no irregularities” in the management of Pedro Millán since although the cable car was closed to the general public due to wind, you could walk up to the peak (“that day other people went up,” according to Dávila) and it was even used by other hikers who were in the area.

The president understands that this fact “has no further scope,” although the PSOE has requested the holding of an extraordinary plenary session, and has assumed that they cannot control what “each person can say” on their private channels on social networks and with a “colloquial language”.

Fourteen environmental groups have demanded that the island’s government hand over the reports that supposedly support the “irregular” ascent of the youtuber to the peak of the National Park. “Taking into account that TheGrefg himself says in his video that he lacked permission for that climb, the Cabildo must send that authorization to the Board of Trustees of the National Park and, for the sake of greater transparency, make it public.”

The youtuber David Canovas Martínez On November 25, he published a video of his ascent to this peak, protected by its biological and geological singularities. In it, the influencer explains that he has been able to upload without authorization. The events occurred on the 23rd of that same month. “I have arranged to meet a boss, a big boss from Tenerife, from the environment, to go up together, which normally cannot be done, because you need authorization. That’s what it’s like to be good to the people of Tenerife, they give it back to you,” says The Grefg in its publication.

Furthermore, in the images, the youtuber assures that the cable car was closed and that the insular director of the Environment, Pedro Millán, he activated it only to go up with him and grant him permission. Environmental groups remember that that day the cable car was closed for safety, as it was a day of strong winds. The complainants consider it “very serious” that Millán “played with the lives of the staff who accompanied him on the way up and down.”
