They had not given nine at night, the time scheduled for the start of the Santa Cruz magicians ball, and many attendees were already beginning to sit at the tables that they had reserved a week ago, and which sold out in just one hour. The 712 tables distributed between the streets of Antonio Domínguez Alfonso (La Noria), Nifú-Nifá, Campo de Castro, Bravo Murillo, as well as in the squares of Europe and the Church of the Conception, gradually filled up until registering. a full history

in some May festivities that are being multitudinous, the dance of magicians was not going to be less. Last night, 17,000 people gathered to enjoy one of the events with the most participation of all the founding festivals of the city.

This year, with more tables than ever, the chicharreros’ desire to party was noticeable, and without restrictions of any kind, which made it impossible for two years to meet even to eat with the family, they enjoyed themselves until well into the morning .

And precisely families were the ones that last night starred in the magician’s ball, the same ones that boasted of the food that was displayed on each table as if it were an exhibition. Gofio, wrinkled potatoes, fiesta meat, salad, gabanzas and, of course, the good local wine. All seasoned with a good dose of guitars, timples and even some tambourine.

Both the diners and those who simply wanted to enjoy the traditional Canarian music, first, and the popular festival, later, came dressed in typical Canarian clothing, most of them in the costume of magicians from Santa Cruz, but also from La Orotava, the second most used, and from other Islands. The organization was in charge of ensuring that everyone accessed the venue, which could be done at ten different points, properly dressed.

In a quick tour of the different tables, it could be seen that classics such as Paco Tacoronte’s pestiños had not missed their appointment, nor had the political groups, which, during the electoral period, were more present than ever.

The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, who before joining the dance of magicians, made the traditional floral offering to the Virgin of Candelaria, where he even danced with the dance group of the Tajaraste group, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the festival.

And while this was happening in the surroundings of La Noria, in the old Mercado de La Salud, for the second consecutive year, an alternative magicians dance was held. Last year, the groups that have their headquarters there, unable to get a table at La Noria, decided to set up their own celebration. This year, with more time and more desire if possible, they have repeated the experience.

The dance of the Santa Cruz magicians began, as usual, with a Canarian dinner in the surroundings of La Noria, shared by 712 tables occupied by families and revelers. Fran Pallero
