Holy Week in La Laguna filled the streets of the city center with devotion and emotion last night, with the celebration of Holy Wednesday and the traditional processions of this day.
Thus, from the Cathedral of La Laguna, the processions of the images of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and Nuestra Señora de la Soledad departed, accompanied by their brotherhood, made up “mostly of students and alumni of the Nava La Salle school”; as well as the passage of Ecce Homo (Señor de la Cañita), with the brotherhood of the Blood of Christ and the Holy Cross, which “is the oldest in La Laguna and one of the oldest in the Canary Islands, according to historical data”, both accompanied by the war band of the Canary Islands Command, as explained by the Board of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods (JHC) of La Laguna.
In addition, the brotherhood of the Blood of Christ and the Holy Cross has “a wooden cross brought from the Holy Land that is also in procession, within the procession”, and when the procession passes through the ruins of the old church of San Agustín, they “Make an offering”, they pointed out from the JHC. And it happens that the three images that were processed yesterday “suffered the fire that hit the church of San Agustín in 1964”, which left it in ruins.
In fact, that of Señor de la Cañita was completely burned and the current one is “a new carving, made by Ezequiel de León”, while that of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno “part of the image was burned and the hands were restored and the face”, saving only “the image of Our Lady of Solitude, which is by Rodríguez de la Oliva”, they pointed out.
Also, last night the procession of La Veronica and the Holy Face was lived, from San Benito Abad; and in the Plaza del Hermano Ramón there was a floral offering and a performance by the Band of Bugles and Drums of San Miguel.
Meanwhile, the chicharrera capital would also live the procession of the Encounter between the steps of the Blessed Virgin of Bitterness and San Juan Evangelista, both coinciding in the Plaza del Príncipe.
