He Association of Property Administrators of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has released a statement in which it requests respect for the residents of the capital of Tenerife and their properties during the street festivities of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

They point out that in some neighborhood communities they suffer damages due to uncivil acts during the carnival, and add that, in addition to emotional damage, there are economic costs “of no less” than 2,000 euros for “defending the buildings from the carnival attack, and for other derived costs cleaning and damage. What should not be understood as inherent to the enjoyment of the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife”.

The property managers point out that, after certain hours, with the lack of inhibition typical of the party, the restricted toilets in the premises and the urinals in the street that are crowded or unattractive due to their hygienic conditions, “the street becomes a great public urinal for large and small emergencies”.

And from there to using any wall or corner, the ramp that leads to a garage of a building, the gardens of a community or the interior of the portal itself, if someone neglected to leave it open, the property managers continue.

“We believe that this year could be worse than others”

They comment that after the recent announcement of fines of up to 750 euros for urinating on public roads, as included in the new municipal ordinance, it is easy to think that the situation of other years for buildings and portals will probably worsen.

So, at the dawn of the party, they ask those who enjoy the carnival in the streets to respect the properties, the neighbors and all the citizens, in general, of the capital of Tenerife.

The property managers recognize that having a good time is the objective and the spirit of the carnival, but, they add, according to some minimum standards of education and civility, “the same ones that we demand of each other the rest of the year.”

And that respect, they continue, “comprises from our own home, avoiding inconvenience to our neighbors for the typical gatherings of friends for the carnival, even when we return from the party and we do it without attracting the attention of those who rest.”

They also demand a carnival free of sexist violence and this respect is extended to a “very serious request to alert against sexist behaviors and sexual assaults, which also, unfortunately, sometimes take place in the portals of buildings or taking advantage of dark areas and corners of the real estate”.

They reiterate their support for women to be able to enjoy a carnival free of sexist violence, and their commitment to denounce situations of which they are aware in the surroundings of their buildings and communities.

In general, they ask residents to monitor who accesses the properties without being regular residents, and to take measures to prevent strangers from entering the building by keeping the gate closed (not locked).

They must also adopt the usual measures to prevent material damage to walls and access doors to the building with the appropriate and most sophisticated means.
