The children of Candelaria were the main protagonists in lighting the tree in the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, more than 12 meters high and made up of nearly 30,000 low-consumption LED bulbs. This year, around 600 Christmas decorations have been displayed in the municipality, including 12 three-dimensional elements.
The mayoress, Mari Brito, and a group of boys and girls pressed the button of the illusion of a month of December in which, according to the words of the municipal councilor, “comes to share a table with unlimited family members, enjoy the events with the chairs together, dance with the new year until we are exhausted and give each other all the kisses and hugs that were left in the drawer of several Easter past.”
Mari Brito wished the residents happy holidays and invited them to participate in the almost one hundred Christmas activities scheduled until January 5 with the so-called Night of Dreams.
Totó the Clown and his zirconia delighted the little ones in an act in which Mickey Mouse and Donald were not absent. The music was provided by Sheila Torres, who played Hallelujah just before the lighting.
Once the lighting was activated, the Dixeland de Las Candelas performed several songs and headed down Calle la Arena towards Los Pescadores square, where the Tapas and Wine Fair took place, where the public could taste the wines from the wineries El Rebusco, Viña Gómez, La Vera, El Silencio, Ferrera, Comarcal Valle de Güímar, Hermanos Mesa, CHP and Mencey de Chasna, with the seasoning of the gastronomy of the Romén, El Perchero, Casa José and Palmelita restaurants.
The Christmas events will continue tomorrow with the opening to the public of the Candelaria municipal nativity scene in the Plaza del Centro Cultural, where the Rondalla de Mayores Antón Guanche will perform.
