The Cabildo, through the public company Balten, will begin the repair work of the largest reclaimed water pipe on the Island in the middle of this month. The works, with a budget of 1.4 million euros, will be carried out by the company Tedagua and have an execution period of 12 months.
The Island Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, explained that “the so-called black tube of Balten is a fundamental infrastructure to guarantee the supply of irrigation water to the South, which is essential for the hydraulic balance of the Island.” .
In addition, he recalled that in the last three years “breakdowns and accidents have been resolved that have jeopardized irrigation in the South and we could not maintain this situation for longer.”
The works include the repair and improvement of the reclaimed water pipeline between the pumping station located under the Buenos Aires WWTP, in Santa Cruz, to the Valle San Lorenzo (Arona) pond, which consists of a first section of 6.6 kilometers and which leads the water to a reservoir located in El Tablero, with a capacity of 15,000 cubic meters.
more than 62 kilometers
Starting from El Tablero, the transport pipeline itself is developed, over 62 kilometers long, which runs parallel to the highway to the Valle de San Lorenzo pond, with a capacity of 250,000 cubic meters.
The passage works, manholes and other structural elements will also be improved. In the same way, valve elements will be replaced, the anchors will be reinforced and new control devices will be installed, “to preserve this strategic installation, a pioneer in the Canary Islands, which in 2023 will celebrate 30 years of service,” said Parrilla.
