Santa Cruz will become the fashion capital of the Canary Islands next week thanks to the Isla de Moda project, which will bring the union between the world of design and local commerce throughout Tenerife with catwalks at street level.

The chicharrera capital is the first stop of this meeting, which on the 23rd will turn Bethencourt Afonso street (formerly San José) into the largest fashion catwalk in the Canary Islands and the second in Spain, with more than 120 square meters dedicated to the parade of the brands that are sold in Santa Cruz through local businesses.

On the 25th, coinciding with the switching on of the Christmas lights in the capital, a second catwalk will be held, this one in the Alameda del Duque Santa Elena, where Canarian designers will show their creations at the IDM Fashion Night.
This project, which has been created by the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca), thanks to the subsidy granted by the General Directorate of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands through the Canarias Viva line, was presented yesterday in Santa Cruz by Fauca , with the assistance of the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez; the General Director of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, David Mille; the Minister of Employment, Socioeconomic Development and External Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Carmen Luz Baso; the president of Fauca, Abbas Moujir; the president of Zona Centro, Bernard Lonis, and the creative director Juan Carlos Armas.

All the administrations present gave their support to an initiative that has the will to continue, as the insular councilor Carmen Luz Baso advanced, who pointed out that the intention of the Cabildo is that this local fashion and commerce meeting be repeated every year, both in Santa Cruz as in other municipalities.

In addition to the two catwalks, a photographic exhibition will be inaugurated in which models can be seen next to monuments of Santa Cruz. The exhibition can be seen in the middle of Bethencourt Afonso street and its purpose is to show “the perfect fusion between fashion and art, and to value the cultural wealth of the capital”.

The catwalk on the 23rd will begin at 8:00 p.m. and end at 9:30 p.m., like the one on the 25th, in which Fabián García Atelier, Lucas Balboa, Diazar, JaviLar, Néstor Rodríguez, Oswaldo Machín, Ogadenia Couture, José Acosta will participate , Amarca and Juan Carlos Armas himself, responsible for the direction of the catwalks.
