The Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Green Offices of the Canary Islands, has launched the second edition of the traveling public awareness campaign on the effects of climate change in the Canary Islands , after the success registered in the first edition in which more than 2,500 visits were counted.
This is an initiative to which a total of ten municipalities in the Canary Islands have already joined, although all those municipalities that wish to do so can continue to join, so initially the exhibition will tour Gran Canaria, El Hierro and La Gomera until the end of the year and after the Christmas break it will tour the other islands until May.
This exhibition is made up of 42 panels that explain the general causes of climate change on the planet, the most obvious effects and also the indirect ones on the ecosystems of the archipelago. The existing solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change on the islands are also indicated, which go through changes in the productive sectors and in the regulatory context in the different social, economic spheres, etc., as well as the daily habits of citizens. , in matters of mobility, responsible consumption, etc.
The Minister of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning, José Antonio Valbuena, highlighted the “good reception that this second edition is having after the success of the first, which highlights the interest that the town councils have, but above all the citizens, for knowing better and better climate change and, above all, for what measures can be taken to mitigate it”.
Valbuena explained that during this week it will be the Gran Canaria municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana that will offer its neighbors the possibility of visiting the campaign in the province of Las Palmas, and announced that it has also started in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the opening of the exhibition from today at the Asabanos Cultural Center in Valverde on the island of El Hierro.
