The director of 1-1-2 in the Archipelago, Moisés Sánchez Arrocha, He explained that between Saturday, Sunday and Monday, some 15,000 calls in total were received in the rooms of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas, which represents almost double the normal number. The day with the most requests for services was Sunday. Of these alerts, approximately 2,500 were related to the adverse weather phenomenon.
Clarifies this demand was the one received by the Coordinating Center for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes) of the canarian government, because there were citizens who contacted the coordination rooms set up by the councils or some municipalities.
The greatest incidents on Saturday were concentrated in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, while on Sunday they were registered in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma and Lanzarote. Regarding yesterday’s session, the claim for services was accounted for, above all, in Gran Canaria and La Palma.
By areas, the most numerous emergencies occurred in Las Palmas and La Aldea, in Gran Canaria, as well as in Las Breñas and Mazo, in La Palma, and various points in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Power outages and problems with power lines and electricity panels, sEspecially the low voltage ones, were incidents for which numerous services were required. In the metropolitan areas of Tenerife and Gran Canaria there were also falls of branches and trees. And landslides of varying intensity were common in La Palma, Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
To deal with the situation, the staff was reinforced in the two operating rooms of 1-1-2, as well as in the National Policethe Civil Guard and the General Body of the Canary Police (CGPC). In the coordination centers there were also firefighters from the consortia of Tenerife and Gran Canaria, who with their experience advised on different decisions taken to intervene in various services.
In addition to the landslides that have caused very serious damage to cars in Puerto Rico (Gran Canaria) or Los Realejos, for example, it was also necessary to pump out water in homes in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, La Aldea or in the palm municipalities of Breña Alta and Breña Baja.
