The spokesperson of the socialist group in the Tenerife CouncilPedro Martín stated yesterday that “it is evident that the problems with the island’s roads have not been solved in 90 days,” in reference to the “electoral promise” made by the island president. Rosa Davila (CC), whom he accused of “liing, especially to those who gave him their trust through the vote and who believed he could solve it.” “We demand that you stop wasting time and tell your Government that the roads that Tenerife needs must be startbecause the work we left it done“said Martín.

This is how Pedro Martín spoke before the extraordinary plenary session that will take place today, at the request of the PSOE, and in which he has requested the appearance of the island president to report on the measures adopted, in the first 90 days of mandate, to resolve the traffic queues.

The socialist spokesperson criticized Dávila for saying that “he has a feeling” that the queues “have improved. We would have liked him to have provided some information,” he noted, and described it as “arrogance” that, in the balance of the first 100 days of administration, he said that “in 90 days he has done more than in four years” of the previous socialist government.

Pedro Martín argued that many of the measures announced by the island Government are “fireworks”, such as the tow truck service or the traffic lights at the Padre Anchieta roundabout. “What you have to do is demand that the company finish the work now, and if it doesn’t, impose penalties and even dare to terminate the contract, because that work should be finished now,” he said.

Likewise, he recalled that the measures announced by the island Government for the acquisition of new buses and the incorporation of new drivers had already begun to be processed by the PSOE in the previous mandate. “What we tell the Cabildo is that instead of selling smoke, stop wasting time and tell your Government that the roads that Tenerife needs have to be put in place, because we left the work done for them,” he stated.

In this regard, he explained that the Council and the Government “are avoiding the true solution to the problem of roads, and that is to finish those that have a project, financing and could be put out to tender now.” Projects such as, he listed, the work on the Erjos tunnel, the section of the Insular Ring between San Juan de La Rambla and Icod de Los Vinos, the Fañabé-Las Américas section, the Chafiras-Oroteanda connection on TF-5 or the La ring road. Laguna, which stated that “it is one of the most important to end traffic jams” on the Northern Highway. “It is a road that is in the PIOT, has the approval of AENA, the Ministry of Defense, the Roads of the Government of the Canary Islands, which is the competent one, has all the environmental reports processed and is respectful from an environmental point of view, because 80% is buried, because they have stopped it.”

“I think the problem is that this work is a proposal from the PSOE,” said Pedro Martín, who warned that “if this work is not carried out, and there are more than 300 million, that money will be returned to the State or it will go to others.” islands.”
