Yesterday, the Popular Party obtained the support of all the parties in the Natural Environment Commission of the Cabildo de Tenerife to resolve as soon as possible the administrative situation of the public business entity Agroteide and to carry out, as soon as the property is incorporated into its assets, the rehabilitation integral and immediate part of the building of the old potato cooperative in Benijos, in the upper area of La Orotava. The popular motion supported by PSOE, CC, Cs and Sí Podemos will serve, according to councilor Valentín González Évora, “to improve and increase the appropriate spaces for Tenerife farmers to store their potato crops, with the aim of making them more competitive in the market”.
The popular councilor recalls that «precisely in Benijos we were recently demanding the authorization of cold storage chambers together with the spokesperson for the popular in the municipality, Patricia Fernández; the councilor responsible for the primary sector in Los Realejos, José Alexis Hernández, and the national deputy Sebastián Ledesma». This initiative also approves the call for subsidies to acquire, renovate or improve cold rooms.
In his opinion, “the North requires the improvement of storage buildings and the acquisition of new cold rooms or cold systems that are more efficient and sustainable with the environment, and essential to house the potato harvest, and with it, have a greater margin of negotiation in the sale and commercialization of the local production of potatoes».
