The Council of Government of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved an order with the public company Gesplan for the execution of the service of maintenance and improvement of reforestation focused mainly on the liberation through clearing of old reforestation that improve the survival and growth conditions and stability of planted specimens.
The budget for this assignment amounts to 571,128 euros and will have an execution period of 14 and a half months from the day the work begins and is financed with EAFRD funds, so they must be completed before the end of the year 2023.
“On many occasions, the repopulation of species, over time, is affected by a drowning of another type of vegetation than those currently planted and does not allow them to develop normally, which is why we have launched, with charged to the EAFRD funds, since among its objectives is to promote the sustainable management of natural resources and action for the climate, to make a selective review of these circumstances and that the repopulations do not remain stagnant but develop in the best conditions”, the Councilor for Management of the Natural Environment of the Cabildo, Isabel García, has indicated in a note.
These works will consist mainly of the selective clearing of the vegetation that is choking the repopulated plants and these actions will be carried out with forest brush cutters or chainsaws, piling up the remains for removal by the neighbors, according to instructions from the technical management in coordination with the managers. Of the territory.
In cases where the development of the vegetation has invaded the repopulations and this is so dense that it practically occupies the surface of the plot, it may also be necessary to clear an access road between the plants to reach each one of them.
In addition, the enrichment planting of potential species in the area will be planted, mainly ‘Juniperus cedrus’ to increase diversity, encompassing the following actions: specific preparation of the land using a manual auger, planting and placement of protectors.
