SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, July 28. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has informed the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant, on Thursday that the autonomous community will present its candidacy to host the Spanish Space Agency.
At a press conference to sign the pact for science, Torres took the opportunity to point out to the minister that the Canary Islands will present its candidacy next October to host the aforementioned Agency. “We want to compete in that candidacy, we know that it will not be easy but what is pursued is achieved,” she pointed out.
In this regard, the Minister of Science, Diana Morant, has replied to the Canarian president, assuring him that she picks up “the glove” of this proposal, affirming that it will be “taken into account” in the face of the central government’s commitment to bet on “decentralization and deconcentration” of the state administrations.
He added that the central government has opened the “doors” so that the new institutions that are created do so outside of Madrid and for this a “transparent, open” process will be developed to see which territory becomes the headquarters of the Spanish Space Agency .
Morant has clarified that when the requirements are met, the corresponding commission will open the candidacy process, although he has indicated that “there are many”.
In any case, he stressed that the Canary Islands are working especially in the aerospace sector and in relation to this he wanted to underline that citizens “are not” “aware of how many daily solutions” come from space, emphasizing that the strategic commitment to aerospace that the Canary Islands have “is already an achievement” for the archipelago.
