The month of May in Santa Cruz is that of the founding festivities, that of the crosses, that of various festivals. A month in which official receptions are at May Festival Queen and his court. However, this year the month of May is also when the stage for galas and contests begins to be set up at the Fairgrounds, in which the order of participation of the groups in their respective contests is raffled and in which the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, whom he also officially receives at the City hall is to the candidates for Queen of the Carnival of Santa Cruz.
The latter is what happened yesterday, with the reception of the 30 candidates to obtain the scepter of the sovereign of the Carnival: 11 adult candidates, 11 children, and another 8 older ones.
On June 3, the draw will take place for the order of participation of each of these applicants in their respective galas, with which it will be the inaugural act of Carnival 2022. From then on, in a Carnival, let’s say, messy, there will be , in less than 30 days, what was done in more than 40.
The rondallas will be the first to open the fire of the competitions on June 4, at the Guimerá Theater, which will be followed on the 5th by the choreographic groups. On the 7th, Los Fregolinos will offer a concert at the Guimerá, and the next day it will be the turn of the Zarzuela Festival.
On June 10, the first big act of the Carnival will arrive, with the Carnival Queen Election Gala at the Fairgrounds, in which 11 candidates will participate. A day later, and on the same stage, the musical groups will celebrate their contest. On June 12 it will be the turn for the Election Gala of the Queen of the Elderly.
The week of June 13 will begin the adult murgas contest, which will have three phases, and a grand finale on Friday the 17th. The following day, June 18, the comparsas contest will take place, and on the 19th the Election Gala of the Child Queen.
The last week of the Carnival will be, without a doubt, tremendous, with four days in a row of partying in the street. It will begin on Monday 20 with the children’s murgas, which will extend their competition until June 22. On the 23rd the Carnival begins in the street, with the burning of the Sardine on the Night of San Juan. On June 24 it will be the turn of the announcing Cavalcade and the first night of dances. On the 25th, the first day of Carnival by Day, and the second night, to celebrate the second Carnival by Day on Sunday 26, and end with Rhythm and Harmony.
