Canarian Coalition asks for a plan with 50 million to guarantee the construction of the Tenerife Motor Circuit

The CC-PNC group in the Cabildo de Tenerife proposes the modification of the Investment Plans and Financing Programs of the island corporation to guarantee the construction of the Motor Circuit in the period 2022-2025.

The spokesman for the nationalist formation, Carlos Alonso, explains that they have presented an amendment of 200,000 euros so that the public company IDECO does the pertinent work and sports activity can be carried out regardless of the concession granted for its exploitation. “We want the runway to be used as soon as possible and for this it is necessary to start working from now on”, he comments.

Linked to this proposal, he continues, “we request the modification of annex XII regarding the Investment Plans and Financing Programs with the aim of guaranteeing the financing of the entire action over the next four budget years, in such a way that In the period 2022-2025, the Cabildo will contribute approximately 50 million euros, and all the work will be carried out”.

That investment, Alonso maintains, “will be recovered through the administrative concession, in such a way that the Cabildo will enter that money progressively.”

The CC-PNC spokesman points out that if all the political parties want the Motor Circuit, “it is time to demonstrate it, but not only with words, but with deeds.” “We want the financing of the infrastructure to be guaranteed in the coming years. If the majority wants the Motor Circuit, it must be done and we cannot be held hostage by a minority”, he details.

Works monitoring committee

The CC-PNC group will present a motion in plenary with the aim of creating a commission to monitor the works of the Motor Circuit in which all the political parties of the island corporation and the Automobile and Motorcycle federations are represented.

The commission must meet at least once a month, so that all the political groups and federations are informed of how the project is and the work that is being carried out.

“It is about establishing a clear and defined roadmap and transferring it to the public with transparency,” the nationalists comment.

Alonso points out that the works that have been carried out so far are those that were approved in the past mandate. “In 2018, Gestur was commissioned for international approvals and the topographical survey and drafting of the execution projects for the north and south accesses and auxiliary buildings. In this mandate, the works of the north access began, but at present the works are suspended and it is necessary to resume them as soon as possible”, he indicates.

against the project

The Sí Podemos Canarias group has publicly demonstrated against the Circuit project in the Cabildo, which refuses to support the amendments to the remainder of the insular budget for which the government team “intended to allocate almost six million euros to the Circuit del Motor”.

The party has expressed that its vote against the Circuit “is founded and justified based on the sustainable development policies that we defend for Tenerife.” Instead, he proposed allocating those almost six million euros to expanding Tenerife’s public housing stock, “something more necessary than wasting public money on a project that will not contribute to alleviating the situation of vulnerability and extreme poverty suffered by hundreds of families. on our Island.
