Residents in La Orotava can now apply for a plot in the urban organic gardens of the Dona Chana Park. The Villero City Council, through the Department of the Environment and Climate Change, which directs Luis Perera (CC)opens a new registration period to request the temporary management of any of these 57 free plots in the municipal garden.
The application submission deadline is May 31. and it can be done through the electronic office or in person, previously downloading the application and presenting it at the Municipal Registry office. Once the term expires, if there are more applications than orchards, they will be awarded through a public lottery. The beneficiary of an orchard must cultivate its products “following good environmental practices and sustainable agriculture criteria” for a period of three years.
Doña Chana Cultural and Environmental Park It has an area of 4,500 square meters in which these orchards of between 30 and 35 square meters each are located. La Orotava launched this project in 2011, at which time was a pioneer in the Canary Islands. Currently there are about a hundred plots, of which 81 are used for productive leisure. They can be used by family units and citizens registered in the municipality who are of legal age and who do not live with another person who already has an adjudicated plot.
There is also a school space with seven cultivable plots, with a nursery and a booth for farming tools, intended for educational centers in the municipality. There is currently an agreement with CEIP La Concepción and CEIP Domínguez Alfonso. In addition, there are eight other research plots where traditional and local seeds are grown. The City Council is working on the preparation of a new space for a social project presented by Proboscoentity with which a specific agreement will be signed.
