Around 100,000 euros is the necessary investment to improve the conditions of El Puertito de Güímar beach with the aim of facilitating and promoting greater use of it by the population with motor disabilities. Yesterday began the works contemplated in the improvement of accessibility to the section that configures the so-called Cabezo or L beach, popularly. In short, “it is about placing walkways that make it possible for people with reduced mobility to reach the water”, in the words of the Councilor for Urban Planning, Airam Puerta.
The works will last for two and a half months and the project that is being executed was drawn up by a technical architect from the Güímar City Council, during the period in which the responsibility for the area fell to Councilor Beatriz Perdomo, “whom I thank for her involvement », added the also first deputy mayor.
The work includes, in addition to railings built with stainless steel, the placement of easily removable concrete plan. “Thanks to these platforms, many people will finally be able to enjoy the benefits of bathing in the sea autonomously,” the councilor recalled.
There will be two access routes to the sea made with removable concrete walkways
Gustavo Pérez, mayor of Güimaro, values this action by the Urban Planning area “because it responds to a demand and a need on the part of the resident population, in the locality and in the municipality.” A line of work in which “there are many things to do and in which notable progress is being made”.
With these actions, the Councilor for Urban Planning points out, “we continue to make progress in our commitment to making El Puertito de Güímar a place with greater accessibility and mobility, a benchmark on the Island, so that our elderly and all people with reduced mobility can enjoy the beach with all the guarantees».
The work on the Cabezo beach, “I am aware”, will generate “inconveniences” for the users of this bathing area. “For this reason, I ask for understanding and apologize for any possible inconvenience,” says Puerta.
The accessible bathing area will encompass 1,770 square meters. It will have a circuit or corridor made with removable prefabricated concrete walkways to direct users to an exclusive rest platform, the two access routes to the water with aquatic chairs and the four showers, made with prefabricated modules to facilitate the general use of the same in the days of massive occupation.
They will also have an exclusive rest platform, aquatic chairs and four showers.
Airam Puerta highlights that, in parallel, this action is synchronized with the already executed accessibility in eleven of the streets of El Puertito. The objective of this other project, aside from the actual accessibility of these roads in the nucleus, is to “provide citizens with reduced mobility with an access circuit free of architectural barriers to the bathing areas of La Charcada beach and the beach of El Cabezo”, as stated in the municipal project.
