The processions return today, Holy Sunday, to the municipalities of Tenerife after the suspension of health restrictions and will last until the weekend of the 16th and 17th of this month. will be a Holy Week very special after more than 1,000 days without religious acts due to the pandemic. These are some of the most important processions and acts that will take place on the Island in the coming days.

La Laguna, epicenter of Holy Week.

The municipality of The lagoonCatholic capital of the Island, hosting the seat of the Nivarian Bishopric, will once again be the epicenter of the Easter in Tenerife. It is backed by years of tradition. The main processions begin today, like the rest of the main municipalities of Tenerife, with the Triumphal Entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, popularly known as the Burrito procession. The acts will be repeated every day until Sunday the 17th. But, without a doubt, the main event will take place on Good Friday. It is when more people flock to the streets of the historic center. That day, at 5:00 p.m., the Magna Procession will take place. The one that generates the most passion is the one at 10:00 p.m., the Procession of Silence, which starts in the Cathedral and is loaded with symbolism. The sound of footsteps marks the departure of the oldest procession in the Canary Islands.

The Good Friday processions in La Laguna and La Orotava are highly relevant

The Passion of Adeje.

Another of the central events on Tenerife’s Holy Week agenda is the Passion of Adeje, which will be held on Good Friday, the 15th. The 25th edition will bring together former amateur actors who have participated playing the main characters. Tickets to see it in Plaza España in Adeje are available on the tomaticket.es platform. The security plan requires capacity control. There will be a previously recorded part that will be projected on screens placed in Plaza España and another, the live performance on stage. The filmed part is already shot and more than 300 people have participated in it. Among this year’s cast are several people who played the role of Jesus, such as Roberto Melo or Fabián Ramos, and that of María, such as Ana Niebla or Esmeralda del Valle. In addition. This is the first year in which a casting has been called for the interpretation of the main characters, with great success. Finally, the character of Jesus Christ has fallen to José Antonio López, a decision made by the director of La Pasión, Abraham Gómez.

Easter in Guia de Isora.

It is possibly the most original activity of Easter in Tenerife. After the break of the last two years, the City Council of Guía de Isora and the Council of Tenerife organizes the twelfth edition of Easter. The proposal, which arose to combine art with a tradition as deeply rooted as the steps of Holy Week in an idyllic setting such as the Isorano town, has established itself as a unique event in Spain in its category and adds new artists in each edition. plastics and floral schools of international scope. Those who come to Guía de Isora between the 14th and 17th will be able to enjoy some twenty floral artistic installations inspired by the Passion of Christ, in addition to a cultural offer that is complemented by opera, dance and theater, a program that will be inaugurated by the National Dance Award, Daniel Abreu. Also with the intention of helping economic reactivation, the cultural offer will be complemented by the Spring Flavors gastronomic route: Picar sin Pecar Edition, which will take place from Thursday to Sunday, coinciding with Easter, as well as from 21 to May 24 and from 28 to 1.

The Orotava.

In the north of Tenerife, the steps and other acts of Holy Week are lived with devotion, especially in Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava. But those of this last municipality are considered among the best in the Canary Islands, along with the steps of La Laguna. The way in which the Villa has been overturned is already perceived in the promotional announcement. The Mixed Commission – City Council, brotherhoods and parishes – offer this year an overwhelming video, entitled La Orotava awaits you. The processions are held in the historic center and many towns and neighborhoods. Highlights include the procession of Cristo de la Misericordia and La Soledad, which will take place next Good Friday.

Santa Cruz also celebrates processions.

Although the capital It is not a municipality that overturns with Holy Week, it also hosts interesting processions. This year, yes, the images of La Macarena and El Cautivo will not go out, due to the physical demands they require and security reasons related to the pandemic, although both can be visited in the church of La Concepción. This year he dedicates his poster to one of the ordeals, that of Pedro Artacho, one of the most significant religious artistic heritage, located in the parish of La Concepción. The ordeal of Pedro Artacho is curious because in it is the good and bad thief and below, María Magdalena and San Juan.
